Looking for advice on how best to build prototype of our large product… It’s 18d x24w x 1/2h inch in size. We have Solidworks design files and can send STP files if that is better. Trying to avoid the cost of an injection mold for the prototype but since it’s much larger than a traditional 3d printer volume, just trying to see what options we have out there. Thanks!

Chris

Hi!

There are a few printer models that are capable of printing that size (mine included). If you haven’t found someone to print it for you yet please contact me on my hub or email bo.oscar.svensson(at)gmail.com and I’ll have a look at the files. Otherwise, if you upload the file to this site it should automatically show those printers that are capable of printing your part.

Best regards

What large printer are you using? I am just curious as I am thinking on getting a printer for larger items.

Ok thanks! I’ll reach out to you directly Oscar.

You could always slice it into sections. something 9-10" max in any length would then allow it to be printed on most printers. But without really knowing the part it is also hard to give suggestions. Printing it at one big piece is harder since most of the normal size printers max out at around 12" in any length.

If Oscar doesnt work out Id be willing to discuss it further with you via my hub also. Unsure where you are located but I am in the USA. https://www.3dhubs.com/service/stuffwithkirby

And to answer question on preffered file format, stl files are typically preferred. But if cutting up into printable sections is needed step files are always good.
