Hey 3D Hubs makers and fabbers,

I’m an Aerospace Engineering student at the University of Minnesota (It’s finally Spring here!), on a competitive research / design team.

We have ~1200 cm^3 of parts that need printing in ABS (any color). Looking for quotes by the end of the week (May 15th) – need to get started on this soon.

My school’s shop quoted my team at $735.66 for the job. ($0.61 / cm^3)
i.materialise.com could do it for $417.87 (with free s/h) ($0.346 / cm^3)

I’m curious if any of you could do any better? Some of the parts have a larger footprint (~12x6cm). Willing to work out an exclusive partnership for next year.

Attached is the left-half of the full CAD design. It’s a robotic rover payload for a trip 10k feet up on our rocket. White parts are to be printed.

Hey Alexander! My shop would love to help you bring this project to life! We are also based here in Minneapolis which would make delivery a breeze! As for the cost we would need the .stl files to give you a precise estimate but I’m very confident that it will be much cheaper than our competitors! We are a new company here in Minneapolis so customer satisfaction is our number one goal! Feel free to e-mail me at … if you are interested in working with us!

Hey @david_kretz_85, thanks for your input. Just a heads up that I moderated your email out. Moving forward please use a link to your Hub profile as means of contact. Cheers

Alexander - we can print at the $0.346/cm^3 rate. We offer ABS. We are also located in the North Loop, about a couple miles from the West Bank - very convenient for students via the Green Line light rail.

Our printer bed is 8" x 8" x 6" high.

Alexander, can you send me the files as well? I’d be interested in running a quote for you and offering competitive pricing. I have a lot of examples of my work I can show you. Please contact me via https://www.3dhubs.com/minneapolis/hubs/thinkerized thanks!

I’m curious if you need 100% infill, or lower, and am also interested in helping you!

Looks like a pretty cool project. If you send me the files and specifications I will get back to you with a quote shortly.

Hi Alexander, I can’t do a precise price estimation now, but I assume, that I could get this done for 200-300$. Please contact me via my hub for more accurate pricing. I also need to get the files, to estimate the need of support material. Shipment is no problem and already included in my price estimation. I could start within the next few days, I have enough material in stock (natural color). As ABS will shrink when printed I would recommend other materials like Colorfabb XT, which has similar physical properties. If the ABS parts have a large flat surface to print on, then it’s usually no problem. Anyways I need the files to do a precise price estimation. Here’s a link to my hub (the price for ABS and XT would be different from the one that’s listed on my hub, because this is a large order): www.3dhubs.com/siegen/hubs/marius By the way, the build volume of my printer is 11"x11,5"x7". I can print in high resolution, the smallest layer-height possible is 0,02mm. Additionally I offer services like acetone smoothing which increases the strength a lot. The 3D printed parts out of ABS are weak between the layers, with the acetone finishing the parts have physical properties, that are much closer to injection molded objects. Kind regards, Marius Breuer

Hi there just a quick advice, that you’ve use the wrong link. Yours is only accessible if one is logged in with your account. You have to click on “view hub” on the dashboard page and copy that link  -Marius

Oops, good call

Alexander-

I’m interested, how ever I would need a .STL file to be more actuate with a quote. printing size = 12"x12"x18"

Also Available is vapor deposition smoothing and impregnating structural strengthening infusioning with forms / resins

HI, I have ( Makerbot Replicator 5thG ). I can help and print some parts for you if you are OK with PLA plastic.

Holy cow! I’m blown away by the interest this is receiving. I’m stoked, and know precisely where to now go when we need printing done.

Sorry I hadn’t included the files! For those of you that have requested, I’m sending them directly to you. I’m also attaching them here. The number before each filename corresponds to the quantity needed of that part.
16_FingerArmor.STL (632 KB)
1_MotorMount.STL (215 KB)
1_MainHousing.STL (224 KB)
1_HousingBack.STL (649 KB)
1_CameraMoutingBrace.STL (34.1 KB)
1_CameraMount_NoServo.STL (283 KB)
1_ArmBase.STL (64.9 KB)

Thank you, I’ll be sure to let you know!

I’m very interested in what you can do with vapor deposition. Emailing you the files.

Hook me up with a link I can access, and I’ll shoot you the part files. I’d like to hear more about what you can do.

Alexander - I stated that we would match the $0.346/cm^3 price. Do you need me to load each file and quote each part? We have the uPrint SE Plus printer. We would very much like to work with U of M students - I am a U of M graduate.

I would do the job in PLA for $180-$200 (shipping included), but my current printer has an 8"x8"x3.5" build area, so I don’t know if it’s big enough for all the parts. I am definitely interested in printing higher volume discount orders, and as far as I know I’m the cheapest in Minnesota.
