Hi all,

I just ordered a 23x15 glass bed and I was wondering if I just need to put it on top of the aluminium one

How does the heating work? Isn’t it the yellow film over the stock build plate that heats the bed? If so, should I apply it on top of the glass?

Place the glass bed on top of what you have now. Tape it to the build platform with blue tape, or clip it with binder clips, etc.

The thin yellow film is Kapton, and you can leave it there or remove it.

You need to go on thingiverse and print a “glass build plate shim” that matches the thickness of your glass, and place it so that your z-stop switch hits it, so the printer wont crash the head into the glass build plate.

So my printer came with this Kapton film and blue tape over it

I removed the blue tape and started printing over the Kapton

did I do it right?

What was the blue tape there for? Just for protection during shipping?

Your prints will, from time to time, tear your kapton. The blue tape is easier to repair/replace than the kapton, which is notoriusly difficult replace.

But blue tape can stick to your prints, and can be very difficult to remove from the prints.

Some folks do both.

Anyway, when you get the glass, your whole world will change!
