I have a $10 startup fee to cover things like file checking, slicing, odds and ends. It seems reasonable to me rather than build it into the volume price.
The other day, I got one order with about 15 different files in it most of them small with the whole order adding up to something less than $50.00. It makes now sense for me to do a job like this with all the file checking, materials changes, slicing, support removal. 1 file for $50, yes, but not 15 different files for $50.
I felt the customer was basically gaming the system by lumping all these files in one order so I turned down the order. In hindsight, I just realized I could have added fees for all the files in additional service and put the burden on them to cancel the order.
Any thoughts on this situation.

You can set a charge per model on the pricing page. That would add a flat fee in addition to your start cost per uploaded model. $10 sounds unreasonable to me I charge the minimum $1 startup fee because 3D hubs won’t let me charge less. Though I have 8 printers as a hobby not to make money. I frequently charge an extra plate fee to cover consumables based on the number of plates of parts “plater” creates and customers never have an issue with it. The customer was definitely not gaming the system. Hub prices and fees vary vastly from one hub to another and I believe it was pointed out that there is no way to sort by price. The best to handle these orders is to comment on the order before accepting it. Explain to the customer why there will be extra fees (because 3D hubs pricing engine is in the words of my customer “stupid”) and let them choose if it’s worth it or not.

Good input, I guess I had not seen the per file charge. I will look at that.

Hi Richard. Not sure where you are at, but I am in Connecticut USA. I have a Form 2 and just joined 3D Hubs. In the Dashboard of my Hub, where the printer is set-up, there is a box in the pricing area which allows me to add an amount for each ‘Subsequent Print’, if I want. It’s one of the optional ‘Extra Pricing Detail’ choices. It’s info reads: “The additional base cost for every object after the first object printed.”
I think it usually means duplicates of 1 object, but could be used to account for each separate object printed.
Does your Hub Dashboard have that capability? Then at least you have a base income on every object you print.
