Hello!

I am new to 3D Printing and I have the Prusa i3, only 1 extruder. So I have been test printing these hose connectors that have threads and such. Every time I print, no matter what heat setting I use, the initial trail of plastic doesn’t stick to the board. Once it begins printing the object, it sticks, just not the first loop. I have adjusted the height of the bed and extruder to try to fix that. On top of that, there are all these weird stringy bits that form on parts that are skinny or on the edges, I can even pull some of it apart with my hands. I am using ABS plastic, I have tried Extruder Temps from 220 up to 250 and Hot Plate Temps from 80 to 105. I also changed the speed from 60mm/s to 50mm/s. I have no idea what I am doing wrong but it seems like no matter what I change, the outcome is always the same.

Anyone have any other suggestions on what I should try to adjust?

What is your bed surface? Glass, tape, etc? For ABS, the Elmer’s Purple glue sticks work awesome to get your prints to stick. Your setting seem about right. I print at 220, and 100 on a glass plate for ABS on my i3.

As far as the hanging bits, are you printing with any support material? Looks like the straight overhangs are the issue. Adding a support material should fix those.

I have blue painters tape over my bed surface. I have tried printing with the bed off & on. The base is never an issue though. Like all my prints stick fairly well. It is just the hanging bits that are really the issue.

I just found the button for Generate Support Material so I am testing a print now. I put it at the settings you recommended, 220 & 100. Fingers crossed!
