Hi everyone,
I hope you can help me!

I have a big issue on the Y-axis of my Makerbot Replicator 2.

The belt movement is not trasmetted to the pulley correctly, so that my extruder goes just right and left.

I’ve taken a short video of the issue to show you much better: https://youtu.be/SmKLUN597n8

Could you suggest me how to fix that?

Thanks in advance
Fabio

Hi Fabio, did you check the set screw inside the pulley that fastens it to the center rod? You can see that the rod is not moving by looking at the end that sticks out to the left. This could mean that the pulley to which the belt is attached simply spins around the rod without gripping and moving it as it is supposed to. See the attached picture to find the set screw and use a small hex wrench to tighten it, also make sure you check both pulleys for good measure. Good luck!

PS. the picture shows the left side of the Rep2 but you get the idea

or it could be the stepper motor is out for the y or the board that controls the y. I have seen small little boards sold that control each axis.

Impossible on both counts, you can clearly see the belt attached to the stepper motor for the Y-axis move around (did you see the video?). It is just that this movement is not transferred to the rest of the Y-axis system

I looked at the video and now see the first comment is on the right track. Tightening the screws will attempt to solve the issue. There are several screws. How many print hours on this replicator 2? There might be wear on the shaft as well.

Hi Roland,

let me thank you so much!

Thanks to your detailed pic, I was able to fix the right set screw and now it seems the movement is transferred correctly to the pulley (at least in jog mode)!
Tomorrow I’ll try to print something, but it should be fine now!

Your support was fast, precise and detailed!
Thanks again dude, you def made my day

SHoutzager,
thanks you too for your opinions!
My fear was actually about the shaft (as you thought), because I took this printer on second hand, so I’m not sure how many print hours are on it.
Luckily, I was able to fix my issue with the first tip this time; probably if it happens again, I will have to check wear on the shaft too.

Thanks a lot for interesting!

The total print hours are kept track of by the machine. I use sailfish firmware so don’t know off the top of my head where they are in the control panel.

My pleasure bro, the Rep2 (if well maintained) is still the best around imo so you did well to adopt one

Have fun printing!
