We have an L shaped sectional couch with a good sized ottoman. It is not practical to have a table and the ottoman at the same time. I’d like to 3-d print a “table top” that is also a picture frame. The idea is that the table top can hang on the wall when not in use. I’m attaching a couple ROUGH sketches of the idea.

I’d like the picture to be changeable. I’m using a service, https://fractureme.com/, to print the photo on glass.

I want it to slide over the top of the ottoman, and have a lip around the edge in case anything spills.

Overall, it has to be rugged enough to use as a table top but light enough that it can hang on the wall, be carried by a small woman, and easily placed over the top of the ottoman.

Hello!

What you are describing does sound possible, and not even that hard to make nor design. The printed frame, depending on size will mostly be quite light as you shouldn’t have to make things to thick if the only abuse it will see is being used as a table top. I think that the printed glass will be much heavier than the rest of the thing (have you thought about using polycarbonate or plexi-glass instead?)

If you haven’t found someone who can do tis for you yet, please contact me on my hub and I should be able to help you out.

Best regards

Thanks for the feedback. I just happened across the glass printing and thought it would make the photo look nice and not have to worry about spills hurting a print. I’ll look to see what other options there are for printing the picture.

I’ll definitely check out your hub as I don’t have the software or immediate know how to build out a proper design. Its been years since I did any 3-d modeling but I’m so excited about the applications of 3-d printing. I would love to have something on display that shows how inventive we can be with such delivery.

I do still need to get a handle on pricing as I’ve not used these services before.

Thanks again,

AA
