Ok, so I have this 3D Systems Sense Scanner and like to print out a scan of my pregnant sister. However the output of the scanner is in .PLY format which cannot be interpreted by neither Cura, nor Makerware. Any ideas on this from you guys?

The easiest way I know of is using Meshlab following these steps:

  1. Download and install Meshlab from this link
  2. Open your .ply file
  3. Go to File > Export Mesh As > select .stl from the drop down

That’s all there is to it.

Cheers! I’ll stick with your advice

Download a program Skanect and scan with this program instead of the sense software, you will be able to simplfy the mesh as well and have a much better colour rendition. If you would like to see check out my hub Big3d in JHB South Africa. Marius

Cheers @Marius_Blignaut. Appreciated!

Hey,

Yes you can also use Meshmixer (free) and export in .STL format. It will also allow you to properly adjust dimensions and units.
