How many spools is a lot to have at once?

I ordered 10, my dad ordered 5 or 6, and I have 2. Is that a lot and if not, what is?

I currently have somewhere between 15-20 rolls with 5 more arriving today. Mostly ABS, 1 Glass, 2-3 Ultra-T.

Most of this is due to with my business I advertise a lot of colors and need to make sure I have at least one roll of each color I offer. Things like black and white I keep at least 2 at a time of.

I have probably around 10 or 11 rolls of filament. I have several rolls of ABS, PLA, 2 HIPS (black and natural),1 roll PETG, and 1 roll wood filament.

I’ve been running a hub since around August or Sept and have not used a whole roll yet (around 16 ordered finished).

My most popular filament has been bright orange ABS, followed by glow in the dark (ABS/PLA).

Interesting, bright orange you say? Never would have guessed that. Think its time to order me a roll too. And glad to hear about the glow in the dark. I just got a printer this week that can do PLA, I ordered white, black, and glow in the dark because I figured it would be popular.

Yea, I’ve been very surprised by the popularity of it. I originally bought it for personal use because I liked the color, but I listed it on my hub too just for fun. Everyone seems to like it

Hey Michael,

as with so many things, the answer to your question depends on you and what you want to do. I personally have 45 rolls in different states of used-up-ness in store. For my personal printing I usually focus on functional parts made of different engineering plastics, but I also have customers with a design background that like a large choice of colours in PLA. And then there are always a few “just because it’s so cool”-rolls. Of course I didn’t start my hub like this, it is something I learned over time. So try to be aware of your surrounding customers. For example having a university close by, like me, can change a lot.

One last thing, that I just want to put out there: No matter how much space you dedicate to spool storage, the collection will very quickly expand to fill it.
