Checked the fan and wiring all the way down to the board, all checks out (runs when a 5volt supply is connected). When the qidi is running “the robot” pla sample file (or any of the other pla sample files) there is no supply voltage going to the “extra” connection point that the cooling fan is connected to. Is there some hidden setting that I am not finding. I’m assuming the pla sample files on the SD card that came with the printer are configured to use the cooling fan?

What firmware do you have installed? I have Sailfish 7.8 (came installed) and there’s an option to turn the fan on, and also in simplify 3d it works.
Mine is 7.8 as well. Where is the option to turn the cooling fan on hidden?
when it is printing you can click the middle button and go down until you see the option.
I you don’t want to manually turn the fan on (I assume you found that the fan works), then you might want to choose a different slicer.
Makerbot Desktop I found doesn’t allow the use of the cooling fan settings, so I switched to Slic3r.
If you want to have a good variety of settings available, without paying for Simplify3D, then I’d recommend Slic3r.
To make the fan run automatically, go to the settings tab labeled “extruders” (you have to be in advanced mode).
There will be cooling settings for each extruder, and there you can choose what layers the fan turns on, how fast the fan spins, and other useful settings.
