I want to make a rounded rectangle with a word cut out of it. I guess you could call it negative text. It would be the opposite of extruded letters.
An example would be a black rounded rectangle 1mm thick with the letters cut out of it. That could be placed on a much larger piece that is green and the letters would appear to be green. If it was placed on a red background, the letters would appear to be red etc.,
I don’t mind using software that would be new to me as long as it is free or at least inexpensive.
Hi @PickyBiker if you’re only looking for something basic, there’s a couple of programs that’ll do this for you very quickly. The simplest (if you’re using Windows 10) is Microsoft’s own 3D Builder. Just search Cortana for “3d builder” and it should come up in the list or offer to install it. The second is Tinkercad, which has some good simple tools for playing with text. In Tinkercad you’d simply make your rectangle, create letters and position them on the rectangle then choose their behaviour as “hole” and you’re done.
(for future reference, I’d call this a “boolean subtraction”, but there are other terms for it!)
