Hello, I have been testing the retraction settings on my printer and I cannot figure it out.

I’ve looked all over and the most helpful tip I’ve found was I was printing too hot

I am using the latest version of Repetier and my settings are as follows.

180 degrees Extruder, 50 degrees bed.

Retraction Speed: 50mm/s

Retraction Distance: 7.5mm

Min. Travel Before Retract: 0 mm

Min. Extrusion before Retract: 0.02 mm

Z Hop: 0 mm

Cut off Object Bottom: 0 mm

Nozzle Diameter: 0.4 mm

Minimize Crossing Perimeters: [Always]

Fan Settings:

Max: [100%]

Min: [95%]

Off until [1 mm] height

Any help is appreciated and I have nearly perfected my prints but the only issue now is retraction/stringing

Retraction Distance: >4.5mm

those settings would never work on my printer.
retract distance is way too much and will cause nozzle clogging except that temp is too low unless you are printing extremely slow like 20mm/s or less. I generally print at 60mm/sec.

I found that a 0.3mm nozzle works best for me.
My retraction is either 4mm or 2mm. Any longer creates clogs. The 2mm is used at slower print speeds.
I also have a 0.2mm Z lift (maybe == your Z hop) and retract speed set at 60mm/s with A-Retract (accel) set at 12000.
PLA prints at ~200°C. There is still some stringing on some prints. It depends on how much travel off the print the slicer creates.

A lower temp and slower speed might help, but at the risk of poor adhesion and long print times which bothers me more than some stringing.
