I’ve been interested in 3D printing for a while, but have enough other things going on that I want planning to get one myself. When I had the opportunity last week to pick this Anet A8 for $40, and happened to have the money in my pocket, well the box of parts followed me home. When I said basketcase, I meant it literally. I got a cardboard box full of loose parts, no instructions, paperwork or identification of any kind. Didn’t even know it was an A8 without some online searching. Person I bought it from got it used along with two others, never opened the box and decided the other two were enough. Once identified, I inventoried what I had and found most of the printer was there along with a few extras, but a little hardware and and the entire extruder/x-carriage assembly are missing. Among the extras in the box were an E3D J6 and a bare stepper motor (I’ll post model later). So I’m thinking that rather than buying a replacement Anet extruder assembly, I’ll go ahead and do a Bowden setup. I’m having a little difficulty with the hotend setup. The E3D V6 was complete except for missing the PTFE fitting and thermistor. Using a tap, the threads in the heatsink appear to be 1/8 npt. What I can find it appears to be a PS4-01 PTFE fittingwhich seems to be 1/8" push through for the 4mm PTFE used for the standard 1.78 (?) filaments. Can anyone verify this or point me to the right part, preferibly on Amazon or eBay? I honestly don’t know what I’m looking for on the thermistor, but it sounds like it might be a good idea to have a few spares as well. What am I looking for here? Once again a link to Amazon or eBay would be very much appreciated. I’ll order an MK8 extruder kit with bracket for the stepper motor to get me started. I can always print a better extruder setup once the printer is working. I guess that leaves me with needing a carriage. Is there a cheap “off-the-shelf” x-carriage I can buy for the A8 with Bowden and V6? I have someone that could print me a carriage if necessary, but I’d rather avoid it. If I do go the printed route can you recommend a very basic carriage for the V6? Being able to accept auto leveling sensor would be a plus, but not necessary. Thanks!
