Hi, me and my father want to buy a DIY kit 3D printer and I don’t know what kit I should buy, the Prusa i3, the Tarantula i3 or an other printer I didn’t know about.

I really hope you help me, thanx!

I have built a Mini Rostock Delta kit by Geeetech. Delta printers are interesting by themselves but I bought the kit through Geeetech on ebay. The cool thing about the Geeetech is some customers have formed a Google page to help people assemble the printer and answer any questions. I haven’t build a Prusia kit but you would have the entire RepRap community for support and help.

I prefer a Cartesian (you can google it) printer like the Prusa, thank you for recommending me tho!

Then I would recommend a Prusia. The have a great community! @Eugenec can you say a few words?

I’ve build several different versions of the prusa i3 from diy kits. The ones using aluminum extrusion for the frame seem less stable than the ones with acrylic, melamine or aluminum plates. Holding the left right movement of the printer in square is very important to reduce the prusas z wobble. (I’ve taken two of the aluminum extrusion ones offline and put them in the parts bin) I’ve also assembled the Rostock max and richraps 3DR. If you are new to 3d printing the prusa diy kit is a great choice you can always print a kossel or pusa or corexy style reprap once you have the prusa kit working.

The Prusa i3 kits are great. Maybe look for a Prusa Metal like this one. An i3 with a nice steel frame. There are many other kits with a steel frame as well. Do your research and see if you can find reviews of the printer you like and the company supplying it. As many have mentioned, an active community helps.

Hey Ori, For a kit printer that won’t break the bank and will be fun to build, I’d recommend a prusa i3 kit. My personal experience on places with the cheapest prices are eBay stores that retail for around $380AUD, other places are Hobbyking’s Print Rite kit Radio Control Planes, Drones, Cars, FPV, Quadcopters and more - Hobbyking These two options provide a large build size, use a very common filament type, and have a very active support community. All in all these are perfect DIY kits for father/son activities.

This is really a great printer. I have purchased this wonderful DIY Kit at 3dprintersbay.com for best price .

This Tevo Tarantula has a wonderful FB community which will help us to groom well in 3D Printer DIY areas.TEVO Tarantula PRO & Normal Prusa i3 Owners | Facebook
