Hi there. I made some small upgrades on my wanhao i3 like putting a new glass plate and giving it a new cooler. I followed this guy advice using hair spray on a glass plate: 3D Printing Tip - Glass and Hairspray - YouTube I started with giving my glass plate 2 layers of hair spray and let it cool for a long time, just like in the video. I tried printing, but my print wouldnt stick to the plate. I could feel on the surface that is wasn’t really sticky when the glass plate was hot. So I then tried 2 more layers of hair spray and again let it cool. This time the surface was a lot more sticky when it was hot. I thought it would work, but the print will still not stick. I tried with brim and im printing with 210-215 degress nozzle and 60 degress glass plate. Anyone have an advice for what I can improve to make my print stick to the plate with hair spray?

Make sure you have the right type of hair spray. I use Aqua Net in the purple can and use 1 good layer. Either let it dry for a day or so or put the glass on the bed and heat it for a good 30 minutes or more.

One more thing is to make sure your bed level is right on. If your level and first layer squish is not on you’ll fight adhesion forever.

I have leveled the bed with a piece of paper, I made it so it has a medium resistens, not sure if it’s should be closer or further away from the bed. Im using a cheap hairspray and I have heard from others that it should work with 3d print. But I will try to find Aqua net. Any other thoughts? Any settings I should be aware of?

The hairspray could be it. I read that there are only certain types that work. I think “all weather” was one of the things to look for.

I remember hearing a lot “Aqua Net in the purple can”, it says all weather extra hold. I think the all weather has some kind of plastic in it and that is what makes it work.

Give a google search and that may reveal more.

Sounds like the rest is good.

Yea I also read that somewhere on the internet. It is a polymer called something like polyvenyl. The one I have doesn’t contain polyvenyl, but I heard from so many different people that the one I have works from them. But it worth a try, i will try to find the Aqua net.

Do you print ABS or PLA ?

Aquanet is the only one I could find that has the pv in it.

You need only one thick coat.

After spraying, preheat your bed until the spray is invisible. If you do not have a heated bed, let it dry completely. You should then be almost unable to feel it on the glass. That is, it should self level and dry into an almost unnoticeable layer.

You do not want it sticky. The idea here is that it lays down a strong flat thin plastic-like layer that adheres to the hot plastic you are printing.

I use this method for both. I find if I am going to do something that may have adhesion issues like lifting or support structures that don’t like to stick I will pull the glass and give it another coat and then put the glass back on the bed and let it heat for 30 minutes or so.

Glue stick for PLA 60° bed. AquaNet extra hold for ABS bed temp 100-110°. I spray one layer thick and heat the bed. As soon as it solidifies I start the print. If PLA on glue stick if it doesn’t lift off after print, mist the left over glue stick with beer and let dry. Works like a charm

If you are using borosilicate glass, then you can remove the print by putting it in the freezer for a few minutes.

The print will seperate from the print, and slide off.

You do not need to wait long for the hairspray to be ready. When it is dry, it is ready.

Same method for PLA or ABS.

PS, do not use the freezer method if you are not printing on brosilicate!!!
