When I use gluestick for bed adhesion, the part of my print that is on the glue is left with very ugly shiny and matte spots as you can see on the left side of the image.

Is there anything that can be done against this?

Hi @NiliusJulius IF it’s the glue stick, it should be washable, just give it a good scrub with warm soapy water. However, it might be stress discolouration. What’s the material you’re using? I’ve had ABS discolour like this and the solution (thanks @wirlybird) was simply to use a hair dryer - carefully - to heat the print until the marks disappear.

Glue stick should be applied to a cold bed, and in two directions for good but thin coverage. Some say you can use a damp towel to smooth it but I have never tried. Usually the heating does ok.

I saw similar markings especially after a few prints without cleaning the bed.

1. Apply new glue stick only every 5-10 prints, to a cold bed and with a clean gluestick. After maximum of 3 applications, completely clean your bed with warm water (remove all old gluestick) and reapply even layer in one zigzag-movement (don’t go over it again and build up unnecessary thickness).

2. Use alternative buildsurface, such as PEI (I’m using it for +500 prints so far and it doesn’t need service, besides some cleaning with IPA from time to time)

3. BuildTak would also be an alternative surface, but I’ve made bad experiences with it & replaced it often: (a) bad adhesion of buildtak to bed causing bubbles and uneven surface when prints stick “too good” to it; (b) wear of buildtak -> after especially ABS prints it’s getting smoother and smoother -loosening strength
