Is there any interest in buying filament at a reduced cost for partial spools? It’s all dried and vacuum sealed with desiccant and priced per gram.

Our waste percentage is climbing up towards 20% from 10% and instead of throwing away so much filament I’m looking to gauge interest in selling open rolls. We already have some local/private deals to sell off Factory Shorts/Breaks and some remnant filament (rolls with under 10% remaining).

In addition to the waste the logistics of keeping all of this material on partial spools is getting expensive so even if we have to sell it at or below cost to save labor it might work out in the end. It would be nice to stop throwing away 5-10KG of filament just because there is under 200g left on the roll. We could sell ~5-20 partials a day from the primary depot.

Hardly seems like its worth the effort to ship or sell. Perhaps if 5KG of filament, minus the spools, was packaged up and sold all at once for a bargain, it might be worth it.

Thanks for the feedback.

Minus the spools = disaster anything over 50g doesn’t work well off a spool.

Inventory/Packing/Shipping isn’t an issue as the process integrates well into our current workflow. A grab box of 5KG mixed color filament?

I meant to imply that the end user would just slide it over one of their empty spools. Most can be taken apart and put back together.

Thanks for clarifying. I have zero spools that can be taken apart? Also the same issue applies, some of our remnants have over 500g of filament. You can’t really despool and respool that effectively. I’ll take the 10-50g pieces and throw them in ziplocks to ship out as freebies or grab bags though.

I took a look at your website and your partial spools page, and I think you’ll get plenty of sales - depending on shipping charges. When someone pays less than five dollars for an item, they tend to quail at spending as much again to receive it. Not certain how to solve it. The guys at ProtoParadigm are charging a flat rate of $2.99, regardless of quantity, but not sure that would fit your business model.

Good luck with it. Do you want more eyes looking at the partial spools page? If so, I will repost the link.

Thanks for the feedback!

Oddly enough, we’re looking for more eyes to provide feedback than sales at this point. If you share it out and want a discount code or some filament let me know.

Currently we are setup for $5 shipping for any order (Just like the $2.99 you mentioned). This is actually just to comply with some of our resale agreements which prevent us from offering free shipping. I’m guessing we can find some additional plugins or code to sort that out and offer free shipping in the future.
