Hi, I have a flashforge creator 1 extruder… someone knows if I install a dual extruder in the machine??

I think you ll just need to instal the firmware from the flashforge creatir with 2 extruder

Check to make sure the board in your Creator is the same as the board in the dual head Creator, or that the board in yours at least has a socket for a driver for a second extruder. It probably is the same board, but I can’t say for certain if it is. Also check the power supply in the unit to make sure it has enough juice to run two extruders. Be careful when poking around the electronics in the Creator, they are sensitive to static electricity and you don’t want to accidentally short something. Update the firmware to run dual extruders as Robin_Vdvk said, and make sure you have software that can generate gcode for dual extruders. Just keep in mind that any modifications you make to the machine will void any warranties that may exist on it, and this will be a bit of work to get to work properly. Dual extrusion is more of a hassle and has more hang-ups than single extrusion, so really consider the benefits of doing this before jumping right in.

I agree, dual head printing is not worth the trouble and the quality suffers… Its great for ditto printing small parts using Sailfish firmware. Most of the time the second nozzle will cause problems on ABS as it curls up on some over hangs. Thus I leave one nozzle higher than the other to keep it out of the way.

Make sure you use a prime pillar and an ooze shield.

It’s also very useful for printing dual material with dissolve able support (PLA with PVA support, ABS with HIPS, etc.) Some of the more complex parts would be impossible to print as one piece and be able to remove support, if it wasn’t for being able to simply dissolve away the filament. I would not recommend it solely for aesthetics purpose (printing in two colors), it’s just too much of a hassle.

Second the ooze shield and the pillar!
