Hi guys,
I’m pretty new to 3D printing and I’m having problems printing. Look at the attached file where the up section of printing should be hollow and the final results it’s not. Picture attached as well. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Hey there,
If you’re using Simplify3D for slicing, it could well be the “Merge all outlines into single solid model” checkbox in the Advanced tab under Process Settings. make sure it’s unchecked.

Andyl,
thanks for your answer. I’m using replicatorg. Is there this option as well?
Best,
gabriel
If you made the file yourself, chances are that the slicer (the thing that makes the code for your printer in replicatorg) doesn’t know which side of the model is the inside. I would bet that it thinks that pink part is the inside of your model and is treating it as such. TL;DR: I had this problem a bunch when I was starting out too. Two things: first, just to be safe, make sure that your design has thickness and isn’t just a bunch of walls (really easy thing to mess up when starting out). Second -and this /should/ fix your issue (if your model is actually 3D and has thickness)- run the model (*.stl I assume) through http://cloud.netfabb.com (you’ll need a Microsoft account -they’re free) and use what it spits out as your stl for pligging into replicatorg. Sorry Gabriel, I don’t have any experience with replicatorg. I’d definintely recommend Simplify3D though. It makes so many things much easier than your typical 3D printing software.
The Microsoft Netfabb mesh fixer is definitely worth a try, if you don’t mind getting a Microsoft account. If, like me, you don’t like Microsoft and would rather they didn’t have your details, you could just go to the “Horses mouth” and download Netfabb. It’s free and, while it takes some time to get used to, you’ll find it a really useful package to check and repair model meshes.
In the short term, what you could do is just attach your stl to this thread and I’ll check it for you.

Thanks foy your answer. I will try netfabb for sure. Will also take care of thickness.
Best,
Gabriel
Andyl,
I will aslo try Simplify3d. Thank you very much.
Gabriel
Your walls might not be thick enough, and whatever software you are using to slice is probably not recognizing it.
You could try another software, such as makerware (free), or make the walls thicker
