Hey all,

This is my first time posting. I really hope I could get some advice as to how I can resolve this issue with my Flashforge Creator Pro. It has been working well from when I purchased it (Mid January) up until about three weeks ago. The print starts normally then at a point (it seems to be occurring sooner each time I’ve tested it) it gets very loud, prints repeatedly on the same line for a bit and then continues the print but lays the filament randomly on the print bed. Upon cancelling the print, the extruders try to home but stop at a random position. The carriage moves loudly and vibrates. Upon shutting the unit off an on again the axes home fine and everything works normally…until I try another print. I’ve attached a couple of pictures of what becomes of the test print and linked a video of the issue. Thank you so much for any help you can offer.

There is a problem in the x axis stepper driver on the motherboard. As they are plug and play parts they can replaced easily. Get in touch with Flashforge asap.

My bet is the cables down at the right-hand end going to the X-axis motor and end-stop. They flex a lot during Y-axis movement and tend to break. I had a similar issue with my X-axis end-stop cable just this weekend and spent most of the weekend taking it apart and replacing the end-stop cable. On mine, it was one of the strangest cable failures I’ve seen.

When I first ohm’d it out, 3 of the 4 wires were still good, but the +5V feed wire was bad causing the sensor to not be able to pull the sensor line high and the LED not to light. So, since 2 of the pins are ground (the middle two), I figured I could just swap the +5V wire with one of the ground wires on both ends, as it only needs one of the two grounds to function (in fact, having both creates a ground loop, which isn’t good in and of itself).

So, I swapped them, tested it out on the bench and everything was fine. So I reassembled it tried it out and was shocked to find the end-stop still not functioning, though the LED actually was working. I took it back apart and was surprised to find that one of the other wires in that cable, the signal line, which I hadn’t even touched, was now no longer working.

Since I wanted to get it back and running, without having to wait to order a cable, I made a custom cable using 3-conductor antenna rotor cable I had on-hand. I also happened to have some 4cond Dupont connectors on-hand (though without the fancy polarized locking tabs, so you have to be careful which way you plug it). The new cable was about the same stiffness, only slightly bigger diameter, but was 22 gauge instead of 28 gauge, so it should be much more robust. I put it all back together and now it’s running perfectly.

So – it could be your end-stop cable or the motor feed cable or both. It’s a common failure of all of the Replicators and their clones…

I apologize for the delay in checking back in. Thank you all for your advice; it helped a great deal. I received a replacement axis cable from Flashforge this morning. I replaced it and everything is back to normal.

Yep, I knew it… X-axis end-stop cable… these printers apparently eat them…

It actually wasn’t the end stop cable although I can see that going next. It was the cable that connects to the stepper motor that was causing the issue.

Ah, OK… Yeah, that was the next likely candidate… I think these machines eat both cables… Having just replaced my endstop cable with only 40-50 hours on the machine, I’m expecting the motor cable to go next…

On my endstop cable, I did bump it up from 28 gauge to 22 gauge wire so hopefully it will last longer this time. I also did some different cable routing and added some tape at one of the sharp edges where it could potentially damage itself.
