Hi so I have been printing on my flashforge and it has been working perfectly but for some reason half way through the print the filament stops feeding but the machine keeps going. So I come back to a half done product though the machine thinks it is nearly done. Just wandering if anyone knows why?
thanks a heap
There are usually 2 reasons (if you are using the correct settings). 1. The Filament has an imperfection, like a bubble in the filament and it gets caught. 2. The Teflon tube inside is damaged.
What material are you printing with? What brand? What do you do to fix it? Pull the filament back out and does it have like a swelled area?
What are your heat settings? If you are printing PLA at 230 or something the guide tube will get too hot and the PLA will stick to the side of the tube. Make sure your cooling fan is working.
Pull the tip off and check your teflon tube, make sure it is still good. (if not contact them and they will sell you replacements if you have already used the replacements they send with the machine, they are like $3 each)
Check your filament for imperfections. Pull a length of it and running your fingers down the length and feel for any bubbles or kinks.
Make sure your roll is both spool correctly and the layers are not sticking together. If the roll had gotten hot it can melt the line together and the machine cant pull it.
Make sure your heat sink is clean. If there is a lot of dust on the fins the fan will not be able to draw the heat away.
Pull heat sink and fan off and check to make sure the feeding gear is clean. If at some point you had printed too close to the bed and you can hear a clicking noise that is the filament not being able to be fed and the gear will grind material into the teeth of the gear. I use a needle or thin blade to clean between each tooth on the gear.

I would agree with matthewbasaraba
Could be a couple of reasons. One, there is trash floating in the nozzle, could replace or clean it. Second, the Teflon tube has build up, just replace it (they’re cheap). And if all else fails your filament is trash return it, and move on.
Hi, just wanted you to know that you are not alone in this one. First check at the back and make sure the filament is not cross tangled, I usually get this problem when the filament is newly installed and sometimes it gets loose from its spool and tangled. The next thing you may want to do is to check your extruder. You can search in youtube on how to remove and clean extruder gear. If the extruder gear is clean and you still do not have any feeding, you may have a clogged nozzle, and in this case what I do is to preheat my extruder to 250 Degrees, and what for at least ten minutes, then load the extruder with filament by gently pushing in the filament until it comes out of the nozzle freely. If this does not work, then you may have to remove nozzle and replace teflon tubing. Good Luck.
hi thanks for that found out it was my filament tangled at the back!

When you take a spool off, try to make sure the free end does not go underneath other strands, lock it off with the hole that is in the Spool or tape it so it does not tangle, it is a real pain losing a print because of this reason.
