I left my printer while it was going, and when I came back, the extruder head was zeroed in the X & Y, but the bed didn’t return to Z. I removed the part, and told it to print another, and it started making horrible skipping noises, so I turned it off. I turned it back on, and told it to home axes and it found X & Y, but it wouldn’t move in the Z. I even tried to jog in the Z, but it won’t move. It makes a faint humming noise, but nothing horrible. I don’t see anything wrong with my lead screw.
(The part did not finish when I came back. I suspect that the filament got snagged and choked the extruder, but I don’t see how that would affect the Z axis, but it might explain the horrible skipping noises.)
Anyone else have this? Any ideas what area I should visually inspect?
I had the same issue with my Dreamer. Turns out it’s the stepper motor cable. I didn’t believe it either until I replaced the cable with a genuine Flashforge cable. I had previously tried a generic cable and this did not correct the issue.
replaced the cable with a genuine part some months ago and no issues since. My Flashforge Dreamer is around four years old now.

I agree on the stepper cable even though it is really strange for it to be an issue on the Z axis. See if you can swap it with another one of the stepper cables to test.

Thank you! I’ll try that.
Awesome. Thank you for the feedback :). I’ll try that before I buy a new one.
One tip is when looking for parts for a creator pro try looking at QIDI on ebay or amazon. The machines (QIDI Tech-1) are basically the same but QIDI ask a fraction of the cost for parts.
