Every time I have uploaded a particular part the size stated is 10 times too big. Using Rhino, a bounding box around my part is a cube 12 cm on a side. The uploaded part gives me a box 10 times that, or 120 cm, per side.
I’ve double checked to make sure I pick cm before the upload and have even tried inches and mm. Each time the size is enlarged by 10. It is a fairly complicated part and I’m not sure it can even be printed but it should still give me the proper bounding box size.
Is there an official work around for this issue ?

Why not rescale the drawing in Rhino ?
It could be you started your Rhino drawing in a mm template, and 3Dhubs sees it as cm, or the other way around,
I just scale the drawing

Make sure when you upload the file, you press the CM button, it defaults to mm.
Let the hub know the correct dimensions, an experienced hub can fix it and reupload it for you to check.

Good suggestion. I also tried using the same basic geometry and removed a lot of the interior detail which made a much more simple part, using the same template. When I uploaded the new part it worked just as it should. I’m not sure why the bounding box routine that 3D Hubs uses should give such different results around the same geometry envelope.

I tried mm cm and in. All came out 10 times too large. Since the 3D Hubs upload states that the part volume occupies a cube with 1.2 meter sides, it is too big for all but three hubs to use and so I can’t send it to the hub I’d like to use. I guess I’ll have to contact the hub directly to find out how they want to handle this.
I’m not in a rush for this part but it is an interesting problem. I would have thought that a bounding box routine would be an almost fool proof process.

OK, now that is strange.
So the issue is that you can’t even get a quote from printers because they are being eliminated based on printer size.
I will offer three suggestions.
1. Post it here, and we can resize it for you.
2. scale it to the size you want using some other software, such as meshmixer or something else, which will allow you to that. Then you can get some quotes.
3. Create an enquiry with a 3dhub that you like, then they can help you from there.

Well, ijust treid suggestion #2. I opened it up in Meshmixer and than ran a number of the checking options, including the size of the part. No problems. I exported it as an stl file, tried the 3DHubs routine and got the same results. I’ll get in touch with the hub directly and see what we can work out.

I wonder - could the file size be an issue ? The binary stl file is around 35 megs in size versus half that size for the versins that worked…
