Hello,

New to the forums and hope to be of help in some time. Just got my first 3d printer, the Wanhao Duplicator 4. I have tweaked everything to start making it run but have one last problem. The right side of the filament loads / unloads correctly but the left side does the exact opposite. When I try to unload the filament I can feel the gears cranking inwards. And opposite when I try to load the filament I can feel it pushing out. I have tried to go into Machine Onboard Preferences and reverse. Any help is appreciated.

Update:

Thanks! I checked the wires and they seemed identical to the other extruder. As I updated the firmware, I cleaned the gears and the nozzles which were pretty much clean too… Afterwards the motor started to load and unload in the correct direction

BUT now the stepper motor is clicking when its trying to print… Am i need of a new motor or stepper driver? Or is there a way to give this motor more power? I also noticed the gear starts clicking when I try to unload the filament… its not even strong enough to unload without a good pull

Have you tried re-installing the firmware on your printer?

Sounds like a simple wiring error? I guess the right-side never functioned correctly even before the ‘tweaking’?

Check feeder wiring against the working side (left) before attempting any firmware validation/re-installation.

Sounds to me as a possible wiring problem. Did you check with the vendor?

Did you check the extruder? Maybe it is blocked by filament in the extrudes metal part or in between the motor and extruder. In that case you have to disassemble it and by heating the extruder try to free it. Note disassemble all plastic parts first before you heat the extruder.

yup I took it out… submerged it in acetone… wiped it… then I blasted it with a torch to free it of all filament. Still the gears are clicking.

How do the gears look? Maybe they are damaged die to your earlier problemen. Can’t think of anything else.

thanks bud. the gear still looks good. tomorrow ill try swapping the stepper motors and see if the problem still exists
