I got a second hand dreamer off a friend. It was working fine for a while then one day the LCD screen didn’t display any words. Could use the screen, navigate etc but not read anything. It would still print.
Found out it was a corrupt SD card/firmware. Got hold of flash forge and they sent through some files to put onto a new sd card.
Did that.
It solved the language issue.
But then it wouldn’t accept prints. I use the USB cable. Kept getting errors sending gcode. I changed the file type to GX and it started a print. (Also refreshed the firmware).
Then the print stopped halfway through, roughly.
thought I would mess with the firmware some more and now I have a blank white screen.
Its doing my head in!!
I am about to buy some more sd cards so I can start again. Again. But open to suggestions.
The SD cards work fine on my computer (Mac). It was printing fine before. Only using USB cable. Tried using SD card but it didn’t recognise it. New card, 8gb. But happy to use the usb.
Re flash the firmware and check the wiring underneath the printer. Also are you using flash print?
The files that the sailfish FW understands is *.3xg so when you start a print when using the SD card that the type of file you open.
I have reflashed the firmware numerous times on numerous cards. Same result.
I use flashprint but at the moment cant even even connect to the printer with it.
Okay you only need to re-flash do it once and upon one SD card. I can’t understand this method people use when trying to fix a problem.
MAC or PC?
Has the USB connection being used for the printer worked upon other devices? If not try another USB port an check your device manger (I used windows rather than a Mac) so check their version, does it appear there, also note down the com port, as you might need to select the correct one. I.E the same one shown in the device manger when connecting to the printer using flash print.
You can also use flash print to update the firmware, the splash screen should show the version currently upon the Mega’s chip. My FFCP shows v7.8
Can you provide some files to use? I tried a few different times to make sure it wasn’t the card or the firmware. Or the formatting of the card.
The usb cable was the one that worked before but either way if the printer won’t go past the startup screen isn’t that a moot point?
my computers are all macs.
(Please don’t take this as being narky, genuine issue, honest answers.)
I’m talking about the internal sd card,
with the firmware. Not one to print off.
I gave up on using the USB connection on my Dreamer because it is not reliable enough and it is very annoying when it stops in the middle of a long print.
Also, my LCD screen went funny after about a year and it started to misbehave. Eventually it started to display a mirrored image of its buttons. I opened the bottom of the machine fiddled with the wires, connectors and reinserted the SD card. After that treatment it worked fine ever since.
Maybe you need to reset the board. Look under the printer upon the PCB their will be small push button. With the power on and USB NOT connected, hold that button for a few seconds, this will reset the chip and should provide a connection through the USB. Also check the connections upon the board.
Now use flash print, connected to that Com port to flash the firmware, once that completes, power down the printer, remove the USB lead from the printer. Now turn the printer back on and hopefully it will go pass the screen splash and show the status of the printer.
This should now take a 3xg file from the full size SD card which fits in the slot just above the screen area and print it. This is what I understand to be the SD card as I save the files needed upon this card using a SD card reader in my laptop, which I then place inside the slot just inside the door upon my printer.
I’m not sure what you mean by the internal SD card? Maybe I missed that upon my board. There is an eeprom chip which holds information and the printer board is a basic Ardunio Mega 2560 chip with stepper drivers and based upon The Mightly board MakerBot MightyBoard RevE by MakerBot - Thingiverse
It sort makes it clear why the big bust up with Maker Bot and the Open Source Community
