Been looking at more expensive printers but decided I might look at the cheaper kit ones. Came across this one (https://www.3dprintersbay.com/delta-3d-printers/flsun-autolevelling-kossel-diy-kit). Seems to have got good reviews on a number of sites. Though would like to know how printing in pla without a heat bed would go. And what the default power supply is. Would like to avoid having to screw in the power cable in and have the exposed 240v like one one with a heat bed. Thanks heaps,

I bought one of the FLSun Kossel mini printers, and can say that it’s not bad, but not great either. (What do you expect at ~$250 with the heated bed upgrade?)

The instructions were for a slightly different model than they shipped me, and in a couple of places completely wrong for the parts on hand, but it was relatively easy to work out what was intended.

As far as the heated bed goes, from what I’ve been able to find from other’s experiences, the kit is not complete to drive a heated bed.

The upgrade includes the aluminum heat spreader with a kapton heater adhered to the bottom, and a thermistor attached in the middle, as well as a power supply and a couple of power cords for GB or US type outlets.

With that said, it appears that the MOSFET on the board is only set to regulate power through the two terminals dedicated to bed heat, and is not rated for the full current of the heater. You end up needing an external power handling MOSFET, or a DC-DC Solid State Relay to handle the power to the bed heater.

All that said, it’s a fairly easy task to wire it and get it lit up, but the parts aren’t all there when you get the box.

As for exposure to 240V, put a cover over the in/output terminals of the power supply, and you don’t have any exposure. There are numerous designs on Thingiverse to do just that, based on the supply that you receive with your kit. The power supplied to the bed is regulated 12V DC, so much less chance to do immediate bodily harm.

Would wiring up the heated bed straight to the board also prevent the entire unit from powering on? I’ve just finished one, and it will only power on when connected to USB. The PC can read the extruder temperature, but nothing works on it. (Not even the extruder fan)
