So everything was working great until last night. I had a print going and my computer glitched out and the repetier host was not responding. Now everytime i try to print either nothing will come out or it will come out in a skipping like pattern. When i click load filiment the filiment will flow out no problem but when i go to print nothing will happen. This all seems to have happen after the crash. When i place my fingers on the filiment above the extruder i can feel the filiment pulsing up and down. Each time it goes down a little bit of filiment will come out. I click it back to load filiment and it flows once again no issue. I have removed and cleaned the extruder even tho this does not seem to be the issue i have leveled the be and removed and reinstalled repetier on my computer. Are there any of you that have had this issue.

Hey there Tim_Pappas,
what brand and material of filament are you using? Is there a clicking or thumping noise? If there is, that could mean that your bed is calibrated wrong and is pushing up against the nozzle, causing the filament to get stuck in the extruder. The clicking noise would be the gears slipping. It could also be the filament, as some types and brands are poor quality and could be jamming the gears. If there is no clicking noise, it could mean that your gears are lose. that is rather complicated to fix. As a starter, try removing the “warning: do not touch” sticker from the stepper. This will allow you to set if the gear shaft is turning out not. Best,

Right now I am using abs xyz brand filiment. I used this filiment to do this print before with no issue. The issue didn’t start until I got the video card error on the computer since then the printer will not print properly. Currnlently there are no popping clicking or thumping sounds. The idler wheel was a bit loose so I shimmed it with a piece of thin plastic seems to have tighten up the wheel. I will remove the sticker tonite and see if the wheel is turning. One question tho why does the filiment extrude just fine when selecting load filiment but does not come out when printing a file. Could this be a computer issue rather then a printer or filiment issue. Either way I will check out the drive wheel and update this that’s for the info.
I have had this exact same problem, and if your bed is calibrated properly like mine was, I dont really know why it wouldnt extrude. For a while, the stepper motor was no turning at all when i had the problem, so its possible yours may be broken. Also, if you use Repetier Host, chedk and make sure Dry Run mode is turned off. It may seem obvious, buut that could explain and fix a lot :).

ok so heres the update I have removed the sticker off the front of the filament stepper motor and drew a black on the shaft. When I select the load filament option on the printer the black line spins and the filament extruds. when I select a print I tried one pre loaded on the printer and one downloaded from thingivers the black line no longer spins but rather jogs back and forth and the filament will not extrude. what could possiblely allow the stepper motor to function properly when selecting load filament and not to fuction when slected to print. I have adjusted the bed again and have lowered the bed just to see if it would spin. Its hard to think the motor is bad when it fuctions during the load filament. any thoughts.
Again, check if “Dry Run” mode is on (go to “Manual Control”, turn of “Easy Mode” and under “Debugging” make sure “Dry Run” has a filled circle next to it, if not, click the circle to turn “Dry Run” off). Make sure your temps are set correctly (220-235 for ABS). If none of this works, try taking apart the whole print head. (XYZprinting da Vinci 1.0/1.0A - Unclogged the Nozzle - YouTube) Basically, you just squeeze the lever on the back of the print head (after making sure all the wires are out of the way), and remove the hot end. Check to make sure the gears of the stepper don’t have melted plastic in them, rendering them unable to extrude the filament. If this is the case, clean them with a steel brush or the like. Also, check the hot end itself and make sure there is no filament in there (I know you said it extruded when you selected load filament, but its good to check anyway). Let me know if any of those work, and we can continue to troubleshoot as much as possible.
so the circle next to dry mode is selected still had the same issue removed the hot head cleaned wheels, completely cleaned the extruder shined a light through and could not see any sort of clogging.

sorry got lost in attaching the image. after the deep cleaning the issue is still present. It seems to print a little but is skipping. This once again made me think leaving concern so I did a bed level again still not correct. I have never had this much trouble to believe that im not leveling the bed correctly. sorry for the pain I do appreaciat the help I have been printing my Halloween costume so this makes me a bit frustrated. haven’t had a issue in 40 prints and now this. I clean and level the bed every 4 prints. I feel that this graphix card driver glitch that happen is the root cause for this. everything whent to crap directly after that. It could be just perfict timing i guess.

I have also removed and reinstalled repetier host at this time trying to see if that made any difference and it didn’t.
No problem, glad to be of service. Unfortunately, the tips i gave you fixed mine, and that’s as far as my knowledge on this subject goes. I would mess around with mine a bit more and see what else could be the problem, but im currently having problems with my thermistor on my DaVinci (pray that you don’t ever have that problem !!!). I have heard that the printer being forced to quit during a print due to power outages or software failures can screw it up. Sorry i couldn’t help you fix the problem. … maybe just leave the printer be for a while and hope something just “clicks” ;). Good luck! -Noah
Once again thanks for the help not sure what has happen but it’s right back to where it was not printing a thing… man this sucks
Actually, it just occurred to me that it could be the little command circuit board on the print head. That could be causing the problems, but i don’t know that there is any way to test it without buying a new one and plugging it in. …
How do I find that part to buy and does that controls the stepper. I was going to try to reflash the printer this weekend but that could make since and why it failed after glitch
The only way I know of is buying a replacement nozzle, $99.00 (currently out of stock on xyzprinting.com). Other than that, you could look into the E3DV6 Nozzle upgrade, but if you’re not sure the thing is working anyway, you might not want to invest in that. Sorry, those are the only options I know of. Maybe you could start another thread on the topic.
Hey there Tim_Pappas,
Ironically, I just ran into a problem that sounds almost just like yours. I have noticed that after i pull it out, the filament has a “notch” in it, which leads me to believe that the problem could be that instead of the gear grabbing the filament, a polished shaft or something like that is grabbing it. Have you fixed your problem? I started a new thread on the topic.

No I haven’t fixed mine yet I was in the middle of reflashing the printer and my computer crashed on me and now my arduino lost its native port hub so now I’m working on this so I can reflash the printer I’ll have to check that tho
