I find the diameter of most filament I buy to be below 1.75mm. This results in poor pulling power in the reel which then results in underextrusion. I pretty much ruled out every other way to improve on extrusion. I heard there is a scre in the printer head that makes it possible to realign the feed wheels so the pull on the filament will be harder. Does anybody know where it is? Thanks!

What kind of printer?

Also I assume you are entering the actual filament diameter into the slicer?

Wanhao D6. Yes, entered the true filament size of 1.5 in Simplify3D instead of the standard 1.75. I have done all that and more. I try to find the feed adjust screw inside the print head. Software cannot change the grip of the pull.

The only thing you can do is to take the extruder apart and make sure the hobbed gear on the stepper is centered on the filament path and that it is not damaged. The only other thing is to check the tension of the spring for the pinch arm idler that rides against the feed gear.

There is a facebook group for these if you haven’t found it. Those groups can be a good resource also. I think this is it.

Thanks! I did find the Facebook group and posted along here. They proposed changing the gear to a sharper one. I am going after this option!

Good luck - you’ll get it going.
