So, I’m completely new to the 3D printing world. I just bought my first printer last week and it’s really fun and interesting. I bought a Monoprice Maker Select V2, it was cheap and had a big build area. Since buying it, I’ve read a lot about how it’s a good thing to have an enclosure to help cut down on all the dust and other things that might cause some harm to printers… even a little breeze can mess up the filament. I’m probably going to make something easy by basically creating brackets for the corners and using plexiglass for the sides. I’d like to know what type of things are kind of necessary for the enclosure. I’ve seen people add little computer fans. I was really just wanting some input from others who have made their own enclosures and see what kind of parts they recommend I add. Thanks for the help.

I used 1 inch thick polystyrene from Home Depot (like this) and then added a plexiglass window. At least for me it makes printing filaments like ABS a ton easier, I can get it up to 160 degrees F in there no problem and have installed a fan and duct for drawing out fumes. I also installed LED light strips for great lighting (gets pretty dark in there with the door on) and acoustic panels in attempt to reduce noise. Maybe not exactly what you’re looking to do but acrylic/plexiglass can get expensive quickly so this has so far been a great alternative for me.

That looks pretty good! I think Im going to use plexiglass that way I can inspect my prints from various angles. I was just wondering if there was anything that was essential when building an enclosure. From the most part, the only thing I’ve noticed most people adding is a fan.
