Hello all
I am a newbie and really need some input. I purchased my CTC in April 2016, and I noticed this week prints that were once successful in the past starting to fail. I tried different files and all the same result. The print gets about 3-4 layers in and then the print fails. It starts skipping areas and tries to create a hairball. So I turned off the machine … Checked all connections and made sure everything was properly bolted and connected. That is when I discovered the way the washer above the right extruder had cut through one of the red wires (see photo). So this makes sense on why I am having issues, there appears to be a messed up connection. Also please note I did not upgrade or modify anything with CTC. My question is this something that I can fix by replacing the wire, splicing it? I am a newbie so I can do basic troubleshooting but not anything too extensive. Or should I contact the manufacturer to return? Anyone ever dealt with this? Help is appreciated. Thank you so much.

Ill do what I can to help, can you tell where the wire is going? It looks like the wire coating terminates there so it should be close the wire endpoint. If you can give me a little more context as to where this is in the machine I could help troubleshoot a bit more. Specifically it would be helpful to know where the wire comes from and where it looks like its going. thanks!

I remember seeing an article about this one. My searches haven’t turned it up yet. There was a published mod to print a part to protect the wires around the washer. Looks like more Google work coming up…
Anyone remember this one and where to find it?
Thanks so much for offering your help. I am not sure what to call the red wire but it feeds to the head of the printer. I took my CTC to the repair shop to get fixed. I will keep you posted on the outcome
No way! Awwww I so wish I knew about this before the washer sawed the wire
If you find the mod please let me know… Totally appreciate it.
It looks like your Heater cartridge wire. That could be bad if it shorts so I would definitely replace it. You don’t want those two cables touching which would create a short… a potential printer killing kind of short.
One of the first upgrades I printed addressed the cabling issue since in my case the cable tie was cutting into my wires. Here is the part I printed:
Hope you find it useful.

Found it! Right here on the hubs. Try this link for information: Talk Manufacturing | Hubs
That’s really the title. Not from me - I usually spell better than that.
Hi all, Here is an update. Took into my local repair shop and they replaced the wire that was damaged. I just got home and did a test print but now my layers are all messed up. I leveled my bed prior to the test print. The first layer does great then the next layers in the middle have massive gaps and then the top layer is good. I’m so confused. It was printing fine before the wire issue. I am running the test print again and its on the 3rd layer and it is skipping lines. Any advise on what’s going on?
