Hi,
I want to upgrade my CTC Dual to all metal hot ends to be able to print nylon (and to have fun doing it), do you have any experience with that? what pieces do i need ? I see there are many threaded rods, heatsinks, hot ends and parts to buy, but is there a guide or some plans with parts list to follow? Just buying every threaded rod and extruder on the market to find which one fits correctly is not my idea of efficiency.
Thanks
Just buy the 26mm long M6 all metal nozzle throat. Use thermal paste in the area where it goes into the aluminum block.
Cool, thanks!
I just screw it into the aluminium block and into the bigger aluminium bar? The ones (alu block and aluminium bar) in my ctc have no thread, the head is kept in place by an M2 grub. Maybe i should also change the aluminium block and the aluminium bar that holds the 2 heads?
Thank you !
The aluminum block is a straight bore, but the grub screw will hold it in place. That’s why I suggest that you add thermal paste to help with the heat transfer. I also swapped the heat block for the E3D heat block so I can use the E3D nozzles. If you look at the picture I added an M6 nut just to secure the nozzle throat. It’s not mandatory, but you can get a pack of 2 nuts at home depot for $.50. Cheap insurance.
Very cool, and thanks for the photos.
So i need new heat blocks that accept the M6 threaded tube, i can adjust the depth of the head using an M6 nut and hold it in place, in the original aluminium bar via the same grub, just adding some paste since the new tube is threaded, instead of flat.
Very cool, thanks .
What is the length of the threaded M6 tube that you used ?
Btw, i see that those threaded rods have some kind of plastic tubing inside, is it right? or i am just seeing the wrong ones (example: http://www.amazon.de/Signstek-Drucker-Extruder-Filament-Makerbot/dp/B00V33M6N2/ref=pd\_sbs\_328\_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=41tKEWs%2BWaL&dpSrc=sims&preST=\_AC\_UL160\_SR160%2C160\_&refRID=14RBDYSM52G5DYK9HZE4)
You can keep the original heat block. It’s also M6 thread. This change is not required. The nozzle throat you’re looking at is 30mm long which might be too long. The one I got is this http://www.amazon.de/gp/aw/d/B00NBYFV2O/ref=mp\_s\_a\_1\_sc\_1?qid=1450472000&sr=8-1-spell&pi=AC\_SX110\_SY165\_QL70&keywords=M6+nozzle+tgroat And it’s all metal with no Teflon liner inside.
