I’m attempting to connect to my Makerbot Digitizer, but I have so far been unsuccessful. After plugging everything in and turning on the machine, the Makerware application says that there is nothing connected. I have run through all the troubleshooting options provided by Makerbot and none of them have solved the problem.

I am using Windows 10. My computer recognizes that I have something plugged into the USB port, but only when the Digitizer is turned on. However, when I look in the device manager, the Digitizer appears under Ports (COM and LPT) as “USB serial device (COM3).” I know this because when I unplug or turn off the DIgitizer, that device listing disappears from the device manager window. I think the issue is software-related rather than there being something wrong with the machine itself. Has anyone got any experience with similar issues?

Try upgrading your firmware. Be sure to plug in the USB before turning on the machine.

I am not familiar with your equipment but what you are seeing is probably all you are going to get. Printers are the same way, a COM to Serial port is set up by the driver. Set the software to the same port as the digitizer and see what you get.

As far as USB and Win10. Use a USB 1 or 2 not 3 port and not a port on an add in card. Do not use any extension cables or hubs. Use a quality USB cable 10 feet or less.

Also, contact the seller for support.

Try to wait a few minutes. I had a similar problem at the beginning.

Turn on the Makerware software, and turn on the Digitizer with already plugged in USB.

In my case it took about 2 minutes to recognize the device.
