I bought a Maker Architect off of Monoprice which is just another version of the flashforge creator and have a spot for the second extruder can I just buy another one and install it or do I have to get the dual extruder?
I’ve been wondering the same thing myself. For the most part, you would need a motherboard that can both support the second extruder on the firmware side, as well as actually be capable of running a second extruder. IE the motherboard would need two more spots, one for heating the extruder and another for gauging the temperature.
I myself have been looking into upgrading my china printer to one as well.
Best of luck!
You could always splice off the existing wires that are running to your extruder and heater block. This will give you a second extruder but it won’t give you the ability of using a second extruder in the one print. I did this to be able to make multiple parts at the same time. I did it to some cheap printer I bought off eBay but it works great!! I tried to add a third but it simply didn’t have enough power.
I have noticed looking around ebay that there are left extruders. I had bought another extruder to see if I could install it. It should be here today but I will probably send it back and get a dual one. It is deceiving because it looks like it is ready for the second one but like you said I need to look at the motherboard and see if there is a place to plug in another one. I was also looking on the flashforge site and the upgrade they sell for it is dual. Thanks for the comments and suggestions!
