Hi there. I am completely new to 3D printing and modeling, but here is a very simple holder. It is a ‘table’ type configuration.

Can someone just claify what would be a sensible way to print this? Some have said to split it to the top and the bottom, others have said you could print it upside down…

Hey @Robin3D @Luuk can you help clarify this?

Every position will generate some support material unless you cut it, it’s up to you where you want it to be, because the side held by support material will require some post print finishing. My recommendation is to print the side that is visible more often up for better presentation(“Table” side up). However If you print the “table” side down, it will generate less support material, which reduces the possibility of something going wrong.

The model can be printed table top down with no supports if quarter rounds are added connecting the horrizontal base of the leg to the vertical sem of the leg.

Have to agree that splitting a model like this makes the most sense - either do a small registration peg to join the legs to the table top and then print the table top right way up and the legs lying flat, or the legs will print standing, but will be weaker than if they are lying down.

No point in printing support as it will be a long print and a waste of material.

Work to the printer’s strengths!

Rotate it 180 degrees so the table is upsidedown. Then with some support material it should do the trick!

cheers
