I’m looking for someone to print me around 6 objects which are 30 x 40x 50 cms at their largest points, is this possible? It would need to be in a tough plasic, probably nylon.

My concern would be, that Nylon warps too much, making it unsuitable for very large prints. Nylon is also slightly flexible, I don’t know, if you’re aware of that. I’d go for Colorfabb XT which has similar properties to PET, the material, that plastic bottles are made from. You can search for printers local to you (maximum distance is 200km I think) and select the material “Colorfabb XT” or just “XT” as searching criteria. You might be lucky to find someone with a bigrep or similar, that would be capable of printing your models. Alternatively you should consider splitting your model into parts that measure 25x25x25 cm, that would be fine for large printers, like the Lulzbot TAZ (I guess at least).

Hey Dan, where exactly are you based? By filling in your location, you’ll be able to see all the Hubs in your area that might be able to help with your prints. Also if possible, please give more details of the actual prints. As Marius mentioned below, nylon might not be your best option for this. Cheers

Thanks for your replys, I’m in Southampton UK, that’s interesting about nylon as I do need a rigid structure, as it would have glass incorporated.

Imagine I’m making an odd shaped aquarium

Do many people using this site print metal? Is that much more expensive? Thanks again! Dan

The average price of metal is 10-20 times the one of plastics. I would go with XT CF-20, which is a blend of Polyester and Carbon Fibres. The fibres cause the material to be extraordinarily stiff. Do you want the 3d prints to hold glass panels of an aquarium ?! Then XT CF-20 should work, however you should plan in to use sealants between the glass and the 3d print, to make the aquarium or whatever 100% water tight.

Hi Dan,

We are a Southampton (Botley) based 3D print/design company who also have contacts in the plastic world…

Either come in and see us or drop me an email. We have on order a Omni 3D which will print the size that you want but depending on what the product will be finally used for 3D printing as other have said might not be the right choice for this project…

I hope we can help…

Will (SO3D)
