Hello to any Hubs Ultimaker operators in the New York City area! I will be co-hosting the #3DPrintingDay festivities at Fat Cat Fab Lab with @Dano on Dec 3rd, and I’m offering a few treats for those using Ultimakers in their hubs, businesses, or homes. Including an Olsson Block Clinic for those with Ultimaker 2 Family machine to show up and install their Olsson Block kits in good company. And with peer-to-peer troubleshooting and a few backup heaters and temp sensors at hand as an emergency backup. Prob unnecessary, but we don’t want to slow down your hubs-printing-productivity.
These activities aren’t exclusively for UM2 operators, we’ll be sharing experiments with alt nozzles, materials, and other topics of interest to those with UM classics and anyone exploring beyond 0.35mm/0.4mm nozzles using repraps, third party hotends, and other desktop machines. We’ll be demoing (still evolving) slicing tips from the community, talking about advantages/challenges to the various nozzles for those testing printing materials, and more.
But we do want to see if we can draw together as many of the Ultimaker operators in the area into one space to hang out, share our latest projects, and meet each other! So there is that.
If you haven’t hear about the Olsson Block project before, here’s a write up worth checking out. It is a community invention created by Anders Olsson that the Ultimaker community has fallen in love with. Consists of a custom heater block that makes it easy to swap nozzles without dismantling the hotend itself. It’s a drop-in replacement for Ultimaker 2 Family machines and can take advantage of a growing third party ecosystem of nozzles from 0.25mm on up to 0.8mm and beyond that are used by projects like the E3D hotend.

Am looking forward to seeing lots of New York desktop 3D printing folks I haven’t seen in months! Come one come all!
And I will be bringing two extra Olsson Block sets – I will give one each to the first people bringing Ultimaker 2s with them to the event tomorrow night. There will be machines of all kinds showing up that night, and I’d like for these two Olsson Block sets to find a nice home!
