Hi Guys,
I need the help of as many hubs as can manage it. Yup. That means YOU. It shouldn’t take you more than a few minutes and won’t cost you more than a few pennies but you’ll be helping a fellow 3DHub and, in the process, get involved in a really cool project you can tell people about, that’ll be advertised quite widely, promoting 3DHubs, among other concerns. Also, you have a chance of getting a really beautiful 3D print.
For the past 6 weeks or so, I’ve been involved in a project to provide a 3D print for inclusion in the promotional, and Limited Edition versions of a new album - The 13th studio album of a great band from the 1980’s. With the help of Christian in Denmark, Wojtek; the Demon Designer and my trusty Matter&Form desktop scanner we’ve come up with a really beautiful design which, maybe I’ll be able to share with you if you make a contribution. At least, I’ll email you with details about the album etc in advance.
OK! What do I need? Our beautiful design needs to rest in its box on a bed of black extruded filament - AFTER the extruder, so 0.3mm or so in diameter. I’m reckoning on about 5-10cm3, or about 2-5 Metres per box and there’ll be 100 boxes. Just bung it in an envelope to me and you’re golden!
Questions:
Q: “You just want something for nothing! Why can’t you pay us??”
A: Believe me, I would if I could. I’ve spent about 300 hours on this project so far and that puts me well below Minimum Wage. It’s not a rich band and I’m working on a fixed fee for the project. I can afford to reimburse you for postage and I’ll name-check every 3DHub that helps me out.
Q: “OK! Where do I send it?!”

Q: “ABS or PLA?”
A: Either, so long as it’s clean and wrinkly - Don’t need it wound around a spool or anything. In fact, if there are some blobs and stuck loops in your contrib, so much the better.
Q: “When do you need it?”
A: ASAP really but the album starts shipping at the beginning of March, so ideally before the end of February.
Q: “Anything else?”
A: Yup. Remember to put your email address, 3DHub name and location in the package/envelope/whatever, so I can name-check you and perhaps give you a little promotion. If you include your PayPal address I can reimburse you for the postage. I’d like to think that each 3DHub will contribute for one box. It would be good to think that every recipient of an album will have a piece of your work included in it. If you include a business card, I’ll try to make sure it gets into the box with your contribution. I won’t be filling the boxes so I can’t guarantee that, however.
I have two spares of these beautiful prints, one of which I’ll give to the 3DHub who’s contribution arrives first and the other will go to the one that travelled the furthest to arrive by midnight on Feb 28th, UK time. I’ll also give these Hubs an extra special shout-out.
Please reply to this post if you intend to contribute, just so I can see how things are going.
Thank you so much for your help, guys! I couldn’t do this without you!
All the best,
Andy Lewis
