My son has been using a Makerbot in school the last couple of years and really wants his own 3D printer. Since he is used to their software etc he has his heart set on that brand. I would prefer to go with something a little less expensive especially for our first 3D printer. I have been looking at the original Prusa i3 but am open to any feedback. Thanks for your help.
The Prusa MK2s as a kit could be a good one for you. A good project to build together.
Wanhao i3 or a CR-10 for something a bit bigger.
I suggest the PowerSpecPro3DPrinter it is sold by micro center for $700 it is a great starter printer. I also highly recommend pairing what ever printer you get with the slicing software Simplify3D
i’d go for the ultimaker original if you want a good printer with a lot of upgrade possiblities and great support, or the prusa if you want a more project-like printer.
I’d stay away from the chinese printers if this is your first printer. while they perform well, they have plenty of issues with electronics and other safety issues…
Zortrax M200 should be a good option, under $2k you can have best selling M200 which is widely known for it’s reliabilty, ease of use and great quality of print. It’s well rated by users and 3D Hubs Best 3D Printer Guide 2023 | Hubs There’s also Z-SUITE which is good for users who are starting their adventure with 3D printing as it becomes less time-consuming. Have a look
The power spec has almost zero problems all you have to worry about is leveling it. I know many people who have had it for many years and as long as your not an idiot and touch the nozzle when its heating up its fine. Micro center also replaces it for free if it breaks
