Heya,

I’m looking to read some more books on 3D printing and the general maker movement and I thought it would be a good idea to see what the community had to suggest. I’m currently reading the Makers Industrial Revolution by Christ Anderson, and Fabricated by Melba Kurman is next on my list. After that, I’m not sure what else would be worth while. It doesn’t have to be a 3D printing specifically or even a book. Case studies, articles and blogs, and some more technical content would be interesting too. Nature.com actually has decent 3D printing research articles. Does anybody have any favorites?

I know @Robert @3DKEV, and @ToyFabb have written books in local languages which, if in English I expect to be worth it, but I recon they know a lot about other reads as well

Hi Alex!

For more academic discussions I would suggest to read to give a look to the Journal of Peer Production (open access) and there is also a recently created 3D printing journal (but not everything is open access). I also find that this blog has really interesting interviews and reflections into the whole maker movement. As for books, there is a FabLab volume is also interesting. And well, there is a lot more! Feel free to contact me if you’d like more specific suggestions…

Bawks?! We don’t need no steenkin bawks!!! Dat’s what de Eentanet’s for!

@3DKev’s book is really good for beginners, from a practical point-of-view. Don’t know the others.

I subscribe to Make Magazine which can be helpful in getting a feel for the whole movement.

But, ya know what? This is all about DOING stuff. Ya jus’ gotta DO it. Ya book learnin’s OK if ya wanna design a 3D printer yaself but there’s no substitute for getting’ ya hands dirty. Get down to ya local Make Space and dive in!

Oh! And subscribe to Barnacles Nerdgasm on YouTube.

Hahaha, thanks for the recommendations! I’ll be sure to check them out. 3rd ward shut down recently, but ill be checking out nyc resistor soon.

Great advise! Thanks!

Thanks for mentioning. Actually the German hands-on practical book for 3D Printing newbies was written by me, Jochen Hanselmann, and Roberto Micieli. It covers the basics, 3D Printing workflow, introduction and examples with the easy to lear 3D design program Tinkercad and how to create a 3D model with 3D scanning. A lot of examples help to understand how to prepare a 3D object step by step for 3D printing. Title: “Coole Objekte mit 3D-Druck”.

Thanks for mentioning my book potash3D and Fillemon.

Another great resource is the Make Annual guide to 3D printing.

And http://3dprintingindustry.com and 3ders.org are great blogs with the latest 3D printing news.

Another great way of finding out more about 3D printing is going to meetups of 3D hubs, or other 3D printing communities and groups. Have a look at meetup.com and search for “3d printing” in your area.

Or maybe there is a fab lab/hackspace/makerspace in your area ?

About my book,

For people we who want to more more about it, you can “Have a look inside” on Amazon.

The book is called 3D printing projects, 20 design projects for your 3D printer.

Goodluck and happy 3D printing, Kev.

Hey @leFabShop is your book translated ? Maybe that would be interesting for Alex!

Hi Julie,

thanks, but the english verison will be available only in september!
