Hello, I have a CTC Makerbot Replicator clone and I use Makerware Desktop
I’ve noticed that when I print with the right extruder with the default settings, the inactive one is kept at a lower temperature
On the other hand when I want to use the left extruder (with a different color) it heats both extruders (even if it’s only going to use one)
Before starting to print it primes both extruders by expelling a certain quantity of material outside of the build plate
The fact is that when only one extruder is hot, the stepper motor of the other one clicks as it’s trying to extrude through a cold nozzle
I think it’s a kind of bug in Makerware but I was wondering which was the correct method when using only one extruder on a dual extruder machine; do you still have to heat the inactive extruder and prime it?

You probably won’t get a lot of help because feenfee use makerware for long. Try slic3r, cura or if you can afford it, simplify3d.
