Hi there everyone,

I just picked up this printer and I’ve been using Makerbot Print and replicator G in order to make .x3g files. One thing I’ve been having trouble with is getting the heat settings to work properly. The samples on the SD card show that there is a way to set the heating bed temperature and extrusion temperature however the files I have made so far only heat the extruder to 230C and it does nothing with the heating platform.

Is there a setting or program that I am missing so that I can control these temperatures?

Thanks!

The files on the SD are X3G files, which you can think of as a set of instructions telling the printer every single thing to do. That includes setting temperatures, homing axes, moving, extruding, etc.

When you choose a model and slice it in your slicer (maker ware, replicatorg, simplify3d, cura, sloc3r etc) you are creating a new, complete set of these instructions. In that software, you get to choose every setting you want.

Therefore, the sample files on the printer are pretty useless. You have no idea what settings were used for them, and therefore you cannot really learn much from how the prints turn out.

In in my opinion the best thing to do when you’re just starting out is to print calibration cubes. There’s a good STL for one included with replicatorg.

They print quickly and make it easy to try out lots of tweaks to temperature, speed, and so on. I know it’s a bit boring but print those until you get some good results and ignore the demos on the sd card.

Okay, so then those options either aren’t available in ReplicatorG or Makerbot Print or I just am not very good at finding them.

Thank you for clarifying where those settings would be!
