Here’s a brief demo on AstroPrint, the wireless 3D printing software that allows you to slice models in the cloud, store them and 3D print directly from any connected device, mobile or tablet.

The demo is done on a Printrbot Simple.

What’s your experience with AstroPrint so far? How is it working for you?

Cheers

AstroPrint rocks! Simple setup and simple in use. I currently use OctoPrint+ Pi due to the fact that Astroprint does not have a terminal to insert gcode. If that was different, I would fall back towards Astroprint right away.

Thanks for the kind words! That feature is definitely in the roadmap.

Would this work for your USB problem @oxfer?

I’m not sure what Freek_VanKeulen’s USB problem is, but we (AstroPrint) solve USB problems for a lot of people.

Basically, one of the many benefits of AstroPrint is that it removes the need to have your computer connected to your 3D printer.

You simply take the USB cord coming from your printer and connect it to your AstroBox. The AstroBox then emits a hotspot that you can connect to via any computer, tablet, or phone that is wifi enabled. From there you can control the printer, upload gcode to the printer, start/stop prints, and more. There is not need for your device to be wired to the printer.

After uploading the gcode to the AstroBox and starting a print, the gcode is streamed from the AstroBox to the printer. This means there is no need to keep your computer/tablet/phone on, and you can even take your computer with you and let the AstroBox continue the print until it is completed.

If you also have internet access, you can tell the AstroBox your local wifi password. It will then sync with AstroPrint.com. You can then go to AstroPrint.com from any device (anywhere) to see what is going on with your printer.

I hope this helps!
