I am new to 3D hubs and while trying to search through Hartford talk, I can’t seem to find many current posts. Is there not much happening with 3D printing in this area?

There is not much going on through the forums. Try groups on http://www.thingiverse.com.

Thanks! I will.

Hi Marcus…there is plenty of 3D printing going on around the Hartford area. From ABS to Metal

I’ve got a Markforged printer myself.

Metal too huh? That’s awesome!! I’ve heard awesome things about your printer! This world is changing rapidly and is pretty exciting! I am a CNC programmer on Swiss lathes and a vertical mill by day so this past year and a half has been a big learning curve for me trying to switch my brain from subtractive to additive but I’ve really been enjoying it! I started off with an inexpensive FDM printer but got discouraged with the quality and what seemed to be the printers limitations but have been very pleased with my Form 1+. I’ve made a few things for work and trying to do some custom jewelry pieces now. what have you been doing mostly?

This technology has been around for years but we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg so to speak. In 10 years it will barely look the same form today! The Markforged printer is awesome for structural parts. Really small parts it can do but only in nylon. Most of what I do is mechanical, medical, tooling, or fixtures. Metal printing is fairly popular in the Hartford area…that aerospace thing…ya know

Yea it seems to be a great fit for some aerospace applications! Most of my CNC work is medical and micro with high surface finish requirements so I haven’t found anything in additive thats extremely useful for that field…yet! Ya it seems like the desktop printers have really brought the focus back to improving this technology! Thats my problem with all this technology…I want one of every machine that I see for different reasons!
