Partway through a print, the y axis will drive itself forward (away from the limit switch) until it hits the frame and it will continue to try to drive out, even though it can’t move. This is especially frustrating when it happens multiple hours into a long printing job. Could this be an issue with the control board? Or would it be affected by the steppers or cables? It happens with different g-codes that I’ve compiled in Slic3r and Cura, so I’d be surprised if the problem was with the code. I use the supplied SD card to run the prints, and I have the printer plugged into a solitary outlet, away from my computer.

Click here for a video of it. This is after it has already run out to the limit, so unfortunately this doesn’t capture anything leading up to this event that might show why it happens. I think I’ll borrow a GoPro and set it up to record a print. Hopefully that will show when it happens and maybe illustrate a cause. But as for now, if any of you have a suggestion as to how I can fix this, please share!

Best,
David

David,

That is very interesting that it randomly decided to ignore limits and continue going off the bed. I may need to have some extra background information. Does it do this every time? When does it do this (while it is printing, returning home, homing, etc)? Have you tried another SD card? Have you edited any firmware or reflashed it?

Let me know!

Hi Michael,

Unfortunately, I have only witnessed it after it had already drove the bed out to the end of the frame and continued trying to move it. I’m not sure what the events are that cause it to happen, but it usually will happen in the middle of a long printing job (the video I linked to was around 8 hours in to a 14 hour print). I have only used the supplied SD card, so I will try to use a different one. I’m actually not convinced the SD port on the board makes the best connection with the card. When I first set up the printer, I tried printing with the USB cable, but to print a small circular part centered on the board it drove the nozzle to the edges of the board in both X and Y directions (it never ran off the board, but it didn’t need to do this, so I started using the card). I haven’t ever edited the firmware or reflashed it to the board. I’ve actually only had the printer for two weeks…I received it on the 21st of September and it took me through the next day to get it put together and start using it.
