i have some problems configuring marlin with my probe.

i have the stock (blue) probe, it works but i can’t make the machine home at the center of the bed and the probe goes out of the bed when i try to auto level.

here is my configuration.h file:

I will also hardcode the min/max probe position instead of the calculation in the firmware. Here is what I have.

#define LEFT_PROBE_BED_POSITION 15
#define RIGHT_PROBE_BED_POSITION 210
#define FRONT_PROBE_BED_POSITION 52
#define BACK_PROBE_BED_POSITION 205

Hi!

I followed this video: Anet A8 Auto Nivelamento - Instalação Sensor Indutivo - YouTube

At the 19-minute mark, the guy is also hard-coding the values but I don’t understand how he calculated them? my offsets are: X_PROBE_OFFSET_FROM_EXTRUDER 16 and Y_PROBE_OFFSET_FROM_EXTRUDER 58. Do these two values play a role? in his video, his calculations were 18 & 57. Either way, I’m not able to compile the code as the sanity check fails:

static_assert(FRONT_PROBE_BED_POSITION >= MIN_PROBE_Y, "FRONT_PROBE_BED_POSITION is outside the probe region.");

Here are my hardcodes:
// Set the boundaries for probing (where the probe can reach).
#define LEFT_PROBE_BED_POSITION 20 //MIN_PROBE_EDGE
#define RIGHT_PROBE_BED_POSITION 200 //(X_BED_SIZE - MIN_PROBE_EDGE)
#define FRONT_PROBE_BED_POSITION 47 //MIN_PROBE_EDGE
#define BACK_PROBE_BED_POSITION 200 //(Y_BED_SIZE - MIN_PROBE_EDGE)

What am I doing wrong?

Marlin v1.1.9

Hey @DoomerDGR8, yes the X_PROBE_OFFSET_FROM_EXTRUDER and Y_PROBE_OFFSET_FROM_EXTRUDER plays a major role in the sens that the machine has to offset itself by those values in order to probe the bed at a given XY.

So if for example there is an X_PROBE_OFFSET of 100 and that the machine wants to probe at X=200, then the head position must be set to 300 which could be outside the defined boundaries and that may be the case here.

It could also be that FRONT_PROBE_BED_POSITION is not >= MIN_PROBE_Y - or in equivalent words - MIN_PROBE_Y > 47

I too use a Anet A8 and I did waste a lot of time trying to configure those automatic probes.

Let me tell you, it gets confusing very fast, the documentation is often unclear and the multitude of different techniques / firmwares is so vast that one can get easily frustrated. Plus, a lot of those touch sensors suck.

For the past year or so I’ve uninstalled all of them bltouch/cap sensors and switched to a manual bed leveling method with the paper feeler gage.

This coupled with a fixed bed (getting rid of these springs) and a solid frame has proven to me to be a blessing and I am sure you would enjoy it too.

I used TH3D marlin firmware and I could send you a copy of my modified code if you are interested!

Hi smarchando

I would be vey interested in a copy of your modified code to compare what I have done also. I have just flashed Marlin without a boot loader using a USBasp which was not as straightforward as I thought it would be, but get there in the end. My extruder is also off to the rear and the right when looking from the fromt.

Best, Dennis

I have mentioned difference-only lines here: Anet A8 with Marlin firmware: Auto Home is crashing into bed - 3D Printing Stack Exchange
