Hi guys

I’ve been having some extrusion issues with my Alunar M505. All my prints seem to fail immediately. It starts off fine and then it stops extruding the plastic then starts, then stops, etc. Please see attached image.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Edit:

It always seems to fail around the same point in the print as well which is strange. The Image is its attempt at building the rafting.

Hey liam839,

Its hard to say what the problem is with little information and it could be various factors causing it. It may be that your filament is too thin for the nozzle to extrude which may explain the stop-start printing. This may be when the filament is to thin and the motors keep spinning without anything going through, then it’ll catch some to extrude at random intervals.

Another factor to consider is whether it is clogged. This can cause small amounts of filament to build up and rush out all at once.

If you’ve got another filament try using that and check for the same results. Sometimes you can get a faulty filament which may have air bubbles so a lack in plastic.

Maybe if you check these then it may fix the printer. If there’s no success then if advise you add a few more details like printer settings as this may give a more accurate way of finding the fault.

Hope this helps.

PLA 1.75mm? Sorry, I’ve only used ABS before.

I suspect your temperature might be miscalibrated.

Can you check when it fails if you can push the filament through the extruder by hand and if it comes out looking smooth?

If it’s hard to push through, then it might be clogged or the temperature is too low.

If it’s easy to push through and it comes through almost like water, then temp too high.
