I’ve just picked up a rather ‘cheap and cheerful’ Chinese printer by the brand Omega i3, which may also be known as the i3 Mega. It came with an inoperable version of Cura, which I have downloaded from the proprietor and since discovered that which many other threads have reported; getting an object to lay on a flat surface when it is built / cut to an awkward angle is nigh-on-impossible. A quick search of Google reveals a whole host of threads reporting that they cannot get their object to lay on a flat edge / unable to lay to flat (indeed, I’m only writing this out in multiple ways to encourage Google to point to this thread…)

After a bit of experimentation I discovered what could be the easiest way to resolve this; open the STL in 3D Builder which comes hardbaked into Windows 10 I believe. It has a ‘settle’ option which allows you to lift and drop the object onto the print bed, whereupon it ‘settles’ on its flat surface. Re-save the STL and open in your preferred slicer. Voila! The object now lays flat on the print bed ready for slicing!

Hope this idea on how to lay a 3D object flat helps!
