After music and movies, products are about to go digital thanks to 3D Printing.

Back in 2004 I used a basic Stratasys FDM printer to create a mock-up of a phone I had designed in a design course in University. Ever since then I’ve believed in the promise that 3D Printing will enable local and on demand production.

Yet we produced these products on Industrial Grade 3D Printers, which cost tons and take up lots of space. At the same time a new breed of 3D Printers was coming together, firmly rooted in Open Source communities like as RepRap.

When Freedom Of Creation got acquired by 3D Systems in 2011 things started to get more interesting. I got to work on the Cubify ecosystem including 3D Printer design, packaging and online Apps. But part of me was still dreaming of that sci-fi future that 3D Printing could offer. As a result me and my co-founder Bram quit our jobs to venture off into 3D Hubs.
