Hi, I still own a Cube 3D 2nd Gen printer and have always been quite happy with it. I hadn’t used the printer for a year or so and when I tried to print an object, I noticed that it was stringing badly. This results in terrible quality prints. I have tried several prints and the problem remains. The head isn’t clogged (the filaments flows otherwise fine).

I’ve also tried other filament cartridges, some of which were still sealed in their original packages but the result was always the same.

I’ve contacted 3DSystems and although their tech support is excellent (I always received a response within 30 minutes), I’m not sure I agree with their conclusion: that the filament is too old.

The filament is indeed quite old (2014) but it was still sealed in its original airtight packaging before I unpacked it to test.

What could be the problem? For those unfamiliar with the 3DSystems Cube, it’s more or less a plug and play printer so there’s no software with which you can set temperature, retraction, or whatever. You just feed a STL file in their software and out comes a file you send to the printer.
