Can you 3D print from a file that was created using SketchUp software?

Hi Al, yes indeed! Whilst its arguably not the best software for preparing 3D prints, it can certainly do the job. Its best if you think about the model with 3D printing in mind from the start. First create the file in Sketchup, then run some checks to ensure it is a solid watertight object with no holes or stray edges, and also check that the widths of the walls of your print are not too thin to print. Then export to STL and import into your chosen slicer.

Hope that helps.

Hey, Al. I do a lot of work in SketchUp and would be happy to help you if needed. By default, there is no Export STL option in the software and you will need to get the SketchUp STL plugin from the Extension Warehouse. If you are using 2016, once you install the plugin there are still a couple of steps to enable the Export STL option. Let me know if I can help you get on track with this.
